Birdwatching Paradise with a Catch

Waking to the chirp of seabirds added a magical charm to our stay. The room was basic but comfortable, and the staff were great too help us.

The overwhelming smell from the bird droppings made it challenging to enjoy outdoor spaces. The dining options felt limited after a few nights.

had remote location unable to tour the marine biology station that is on the island. it was also so close to the nearby wistari reef, the beach at dusk in early march, and a national park & marine sanctuary which included turtles nesting on the beach.

Disappointing aspect was cold bathroom.

Really good beachside suite, really good snorkelling experience, where I witnessed amazing sea turtles and enjoyed the convenience of beach access right outside my door.

Absolutely nothing to say about dislikes.

By and large, it was ideal place for sightseeing in Heron Island, had much fun and met exceptional and welcoming staff that seems to lack management.

Warm breakfast, awesome views, stunning location just next door to the wildlife and surrounding reefs and restaurants, shops and centres and marine shop. Lovely bed in the suite, plus a fridge, coffee/tea making machines and a seating area.

An Lovely Nature Escape

Our family experienced magic every day! Waking up to nesting turtles and watching hatchlings sprint to the sea thrilled us. The staff were genuinely enthusiastic, and the kids loved the Junior Rangers Program. Pro tip, be prepared for birds everywhere! Bring reef-safe sunscreen.

Snorkeling with turtles was the highlight of my stay 🐢! The easy access to gear made it even better. Just wish the dining options were more diverse. A great experience!

The wildlife and snorkeling experiences at the island are nice. The resort feels outdated, with inconsistent service and maintenance issues that detract from the otherwise stunning natural surroundings. The dining options could also see improvement in variety and quality.

Snorkeling was amazing and lovely!

We had a string of unfortunate events . The food was limited and overpriced, frustrating. The ferry service was unreliable. We even had to endure a last-minute helicopter ride that cost much more due to cancellations, and the staff offered little assistance or understanding.

Heron Island is an absolute paradise with fine crystal clear waters and an very nice array of marine life. Our Turtle Room offered a cozy retreat, surrounded by beautiful nature and vibrant seabirds . Swimming with turtles and snorkeling right off the beach was unreal!

Food options are somewhat limited during dinner.

The snorkeling was amazing around the coral reefs, and the location is perfect, just a short trip from gladstone. The staff at the restaurant were super friendly. We also loved seeing green turtles and hatchlings during our nature walk.

We had an amazing group vacation snorkeling right off the beautiful beaches onto the Great Barrier Reef! We also took part in the Junior Rangers Program which was great for the younger crowd. Just a heads up, the ferry ride can be bumpy, so be prepared with some motion sickness meds. The staff were super friendly.

One downside was the limited food options, especially when dining out at night. We could only choose from a smorgasbord at a set price, which wasn't ideal for every meal.

For an amazing snorkeling experience, try to book the early morning sessions when the water is calmer and marine life is more active.
